Course description
The SASS Academy Level 1 Certificate Make-Up course is an entry-level course which covers essential makeup basics, including skin preparation, colour theory, and simple day-to-day applications. Students learn to identify skin types, apply foundation, concealer, and neutralizers, plus introductory contouring and highlighting. Practical sessions emphasize hygiene, tools sanitation, and client consultation for self-makeup or basic client looks.
What You Will Learn
Facials and Skincare:
- Skin Analysis
- Cleansing, balancing, toning & moisturising
- Theory of the skin
- Basic makeup application, including foundation, concealer, powder, and neutralizers for a flawless base (Day Make-Up, Evening Make-Up & Bridal Make-Up)
- Colour theory, colour wheel usage, and understanding skin types and face shapes.
- Simple eye makeup like basic eyeliner, mascara, and daytime natural looks, plus hygiene and sanitation practices.
Project Work:
- Combining all the skills taught, students are equipped and supported to work on their portfolio work through various character, hair and fashion projects.
General Competencies:
- Contraindications to all treatments
- Client consultation & selling techniques
- Classroom salon experience and management duties
Client & Salon Skills
- Consultation: Advising clients on suitable make-up based on face shape etc. Also advise in case of any contraindications face shape.
- Customer Service: Communication, teamwork, and creating a positive client experience.
- Health & Safety: Maintaining hygiene, understanding salon safety, and product safety.
- Salon Management: Inventory, scheduling, promoting services/products, and professional presentation.
The course will assess students through tutor observations and practical and theoretical exams. They will also need to hand in a portfolio of all techniques learned within 12 weeks of completing the course.
You will receive the GSQ Level 1 Makeup Artistry Certificate upon completion.
- Students must be at least 18 years old to enrol in the course – there are no exceptions.
- To complete the coursework and examinations, learners must have a basic standard of English language, including reading, writing, and speaking.
- No previous experience is required, although students are expected to have a strong interest.
